War Refugees Committee had found a host for her and three kids. Lived at the house of 2 consecutive hosts (21st of December 1914 joined by her husband) until the family received a house of their own at the expense of the local relief committee, at 35 South Road, Faversham. This house still exists. On June 18th, 1917, the family moved to 99 East Street, Sittingbourne, where her husband had found permanent employment as a shipwright at Wills & Packham, shipbuilders. Maria did not have any employment during her time in England. She did the household. She had a weak health already and died a few years after her return to Belgium in 1924.
