NotesWe believe that our Mother may have come over in 1914 and was adopted by Harry and Ada Pepper in Lincoln. Harry Pepper was a prison warder at Lincoln jail and he and Ada had we believe three daughters of their own already. They had a house within the prison grounds. Our Mother went on to become a nurse in Lincolnshire. This is all we know. We do not know if she came with her biological parents from Belgium or whether they had been killed in the German occupation and she came over with another family. We do not have her Belgian surname or where she lived in Belgium. Of course there were no adoption records in those days so cannot follow down that route. The only certainty is that Ada and Harry Pepper did adopt her.
