Languages and the First World War conference 2018

An international conference in London and Brussels, on topics such as the language of the Versailles Treaty, the wording of commemorative sculpture and battlefield pilgrimages, the revival (or not) of war slang in 1939/41, the effect of the war on Turkish, Russian, Portuguese, Czech, Chinese and Portuguese, and the language of the resettlement of refugees and post-war occupation and reconciliation.

Our project lead, Professor Alison Fell, will be giving a keynote entitled: ‘Culture clashes: Belgian refugees in Yorkshire’.
